Njord is a business founded by Maersk Tankers, and built on the foundation of a century of shipping heritage.
Partnering with Njord allows shipowners and charterers to boost the commercial and environmental performance of their fleet and future-proof their business.
Njord ensures owners select the right combination of technologies for their fleet based on a sound business case.
With extensive knowledge of current and new Energy Saving Devices, we take a holistic approach, rather than looking at technologies in isolation. This allows owners to maximise fuel savings and recoup their investment as soon as possible.
Our comprehensive analysis evaluates potential energy-saving devices (ESDs) for your vessel, considering over 30 advanced technologies. We factor in operational profiles, regulation compliance, fuel economy, cost implications, and investment returns, delivering a customised, holistic solution for fuel efficiency enhancement.
Our detailed approach includes thorough savings analysis, effectiveness assessment of individual technologies, and comprehensive commercial project valuations. We provide strategic supplier recommendations and timelines, culminating in a ready-to-implement project plan, tailored to your specific needs.
Our comprehensive service for ESD installations, whether in-port or at drydock. Our streamlined coordination, competitive equipment pricing, and reduced lead times ensure a hassle-free experience. With us as your single point of contact, shipowners receive an efficient, end-to-end solution, maximising their investment returns.
Our service includes detailed analysis of ESDs, matched to your vessel's specific operational needs from over 30 cutting-edge technologies. We track the impact on regulations, monitor fuel savings, and evaluate total costs and ROI, ensuring ongoing optimisation and enhancement of your fleet's performance.
The savings are based on our experience with ESDs and efficiency optimization on Maersk vessels since 2009. Since Njord “went live” we have had experience on+30 vessels of similar segments. Currently, in the similar vessel segment we have close to 10 installations in progress, and we have +35 Solutions designed for various vessel sizes. Overall, we have worked with +100 vessels of similar type.
While trying out technologies, we have monitored vessels for a fixed period to evaluate performance. Periods range from 6-monthly to12-monthly evaluation. For vessels operating in the Maersk Tankers pool, we have monitored data constantly since the installation of technologies, re-defined baselines, and continue to monitor them. Auto-logging is a relatively new method of capturing data. For some vessels operating in the Maersk Tankers pool, we have installed auto-loggers since the early 2020s and have used the data to carry out performance monitoring and fuel optimization.
We base our calculations on the total fuel consumption of the vessel with the operation profile and nature of trade. We create a virtual model for the vessel in our tool and design a package of applicable technologies. The saving % is the cascaded effect of technologies combined to complement each other. Based on our alignment, we will be designing solutions basis either short-term payback solutions, CII compliance, and/or Asset upgrades. We get CFDs done externally by a reliable and cost-effective supplier, if we deem it is required as part of the scope through our joint discussions with you. It will be an added cost to the solutions – approx. 10k USD – to be confirmed based on quote for the specific scope.
We don’t exclusively compare but share our recommendations on the technology providers. We are not tied to any specific technology provider and our assessment is based on how effective the technology is, and the business case. If you wish to compare between multiple technology partners, we will share all available options, estimated/calculated savings, and quoted costs.
Shore power integration is a part of our Accelerator Programas we still see it in its nascent stages. But we are more than happy to designand pilot shore power on the vessels and work together to quantify the savings.Battery packs have been evaluated in the pool operated by Maersk Tankers and wehave technology partners for the same with Njord Accelerator. Shaft Generatoris a mature technology and, in the past, has been implemented on vessels wehave worked with.
For analysis of performance improvements and actions, we run our Njord Performance setup, which is a system-agnostic “hands-on” performance service with allocated Performance Managers working on your vessels specifically - i.e., we can work with diverse platforms if they can support auto-logged data. We use 3rd party platforms for dashboarding and performance monitoring and have partnered with leading solution providers, including VPS. So, you are free to choose a platform of your choice. We will help procure the VPS contract, evaluate, and onboard vessels on the platform, and design the auto-logger installation – and monitor/action findings afterwards for a small subscription fee. VPS is the platform currently used by Maersk Tankers pool, so we are very familiar with its usage.
